Some Lesser Known Facts

Sombir Singh was a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army and received the Shaurya Chakra in 2019.
Barun Sobti was selected to depict Sombir Singh in the second season of the show Rakshak- India’s Braves in January 2024.
Sombir joined the Indian Army after completing his formal education and trained at the Jat Regimental Center in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
In 2001, he became a sepoy in the 8th Battalion of the Jat Regiment and was later promoted to the rank of naib subedar.
Stationed in Kulgam, Kashmir, he participated in several counter-terrorism operations as part of the 34th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles under Operation Rakshak.
Sombir led an assault team in Kulgam's Turigam village against three militants in February 2019.
During the operation, he displayed bravery and leadership, resulting in the elimination of militants but sustaining grievous injuries.
He was evacuated to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds.
After his demise, his daughter Priya expressed pride at her father's posthumous Shaurya Chakra and emphasized the need for support to families of martyrs.
The militants encountered by Sombir were initially thought to be local but were later identified as a foreign A++ category militant.
The Haryana government provided financial support and a job opportunity for Sombir’s widow following his death in 2019.
Actor Barun Sobti portrayed the character of Naib Subedar Sombir Singh Kadyan in Season 2 of Rakshak – India’s Braves Chapter 2.
