He was the part of 1980 Olympic Games (held in Moscow) gold medal winning team. Mohammed Shahid was awarded Arjuna Award (1980-81) and Padma Shri Award (1986). He was the captain of the Indian Hockey team during 1985-1986. During his era, his attacking duo partnership along with Zafar Iqbal was much popular. After his retirement from Hockey, he worked as TTE and sports officer in Indian Railways. He died because of a serious liver disease.
