Controversy	Inappropriate Comments Against Indian Prime Minister: In January 2024, Mariyam Shiuna was suspended from her post of Deputy Minister at the Maldives Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Art by the Maldives Government following her indecent remarks on the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shiuna referred to Modi as ‘clown’ and ‘puppet of Israel’ in her tweet (which she later deleted) after Modi shared his pictures and videos from his trip to Lakshadweep on social media. Mariyam was severely criticised for her remarks about India, and ‘Boycott Maldives’ started trending on social media.
