Manu Bhaker was born in a village in the Jhajjar district of Haryana to a Merchant Navy Chief Engineer.
She has had a strong interest in sports since childhood.
Before pursuing Pistol Shooting, she was into Cricket and had trained at Virender Sehwag's coaching school in Jhajjar.
Apart from Boxing and Kick-Boxing, she was also inspired by Mary Kom's Olympic bronze.
After injuring her eye playing volleyball as a warm-up for boxing, Manu Bhaker switched to Thang-Ta.
Following a tournament incident in Delhi, she stopped practicing Thang-Ta.
She briefly tried Judo at an academy near Dadri but soon lost interest.
During a casual visit to her school's shooting range, she impressed by shooting 7.5 with a pistol.
Since then, Manu Bhaker has been recognized as a rising star in Indian shooting.
With an initial investment by her father, she won her first international silver medal in the 2017 Asian Junior Championships.
At the 2017 National games in Kerala, she won nine gold medals and broke records.
In 2018, she won the gold medal in the Women's 10m air pistol at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she set a new record in the Women's 10m air pistol event.
