| After completing his military training at the National Defence Academy, he underwent training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for a year. |
| Suchindra Kumar became a second lieutenant in June 1985 and was commissioned into the 1st Battalion of the Assam Regiment. |
| He attended the Young Officers (YO) course at the Army War College in Mhow. |
| As a major, he attended the Junior Command (JC) course at the Army War College in Mhow. |
| He later commanded a battalion of the Assam Regiment and the 59th battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles (Assam) in Jammu and Kashmir. |
| Suchindra Kumar served at the Military Secretary (MS) Branch in New Delhi. |
| He also served in Cambodia under the UN and as a member of the Indian Army’s training team in Lesotho. |
| He attended military courses in Sri Lanka and Egypt. |
| After promotion to brigadier, he commanded the 120 Infantry Brigade along the Line of Control (LOC). |
| He was posted to Dimapur as Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of the 3 Corps. |
| After becoming a major general, he commanded an Infantry Division in Jammu and Kashmir. |
| He later served as Additional Director General of Military Intelligence (ADGMI) in New Delhi. |
| On 14 October 2020, he became a lieutenant general and served as GOC of the White Knight Corps. |
| Suchindra participated in a motorcycle expedition from Kargil to Karakoram Pass in 2020. |
| He became the Colonel of the Regiment of the Assam Regiment and the Arunachal Scouts on 1 March 2021. |
| From 28 October 2021 to 1 July 2022, he served as DGMI in New Delhi. |
| On 1 July 2022, he became the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategy). |
| Suchindra assumed the position of the 45th Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) on 1 March 2023. |
| He practices yoga regularly and enjoys participating in half-marathons and golfing. |
| Upendra Dwivedi took over his position as the Vice Chief of Army Staff after his retirement in February 2024. |
