Initially a batsman, Agarkar began his cricket journey under the guidance of Ramakant Achrekar, introduced by his father.
His breakthrough as a batsman came at 15 years old in the under-16 Giles Shield tournament, where he scored a triple century.
Transitioning to a lower-order hard-hitter, he found success with the bat in his career.
Agarkar made his ODI debut against Australia in 1998.
In the 2003 Adelaide Test match versus Australia, he took 8 wickets for 160 runs, contributing to India's victory.
His ODI career boasts several records, like being India's third-highest wicket-taker and being the fastest Indian to achieve milestones like 150, 200, and 250 ODI wickets.
