Political Journey | Rijiju served as a Member of Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 2000-2005. In the 2004 Lok Sabha Elections, he was elected an MP from the Arunachal West Constituency. He was again elected as a member of parliament from the Arunachal West Constituency in 2014 general elections. NDA government named him Union Minister of State for Home Affairs in May 2014. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, he defeated his biggest rival Nabam Tuki of Congress by a margin of 156599 votes from the Arunachal West Constituency. In May 2019, he became Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of State for Minority Affairs. On 7 July 2021, he took oath as the 34th Minister of Law and Justice in Narendra Modi's Council of Ministers. On 18 May 2023, he was removed as the Union Law Minister and moved to the relatively low-key Ministry of Earth Sciences. On 20 March 2024, he was given the additional charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries after Pashupati Kumar Paras resigned from the ministry. He won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Arunachal West constituency by a margin of 1,00,738 votes against his nearest rival Nabam Tuki of the Congress Party. |
